safeTALK Training for Trainers (T4T) is a two-day program that prepares attendees to facilitate LivingWorks safeTALK workshops. By completing a T4T, participants will join over 2,500 trainers around the world who teach exceptional, evidence-based suicide alertness skills with safeTALK workshops. Each T4T is led by LivingWorks instructors who have experience presenting safeTALK and training others to do so.
Here are some of the factors that tend to increase the likelihood of becoming a successful LivingWorks safeTALK trainer:
Even if you don’t feel you have all these skills, commitment and willingness to learn count for a great deal.
Attendees can expect a balance of challenge, support, and opportunities for participation at the T4T.
Observation and participation in an actual safeTALK training.
Annotated demonstration of safeTALK, integrating what participants have learned about the training process
Study and preparation to present an assigned part of safeTALK.
Participants present the part of safeTALK that they prepared for on Day 1. The T4T ends with a look forward to a new Trainer’s first safeTALK workshop including some tips on implementation, use of technology, and policies and procedures that all safeTALK Trainers are expected to follow.
Additional reading and planning in preparation for the first safeTALK workshop.
The process of becoming a registered LivingWorks safeTALK Trainer requires a significant commitment from participants (and their organisations, if applicable). The opportunity to provide suicide alertness skills is well worth the effort.

“I’ve met so many LivingWorks trainers in the last 12 months, it’s just opened my eyes to the community of care out there and it’s so rejuvenating.”
“I feel satisfied about the work I do; I believe life’s too short to be doing something that you don’t like. In LivingWorks training we’re not throwing content at people, we’re offering up skills that people can take on board by facilitating learning in an experiential way, not lecturing or teaching in the formal sense.”
“I’ve been a trainer for 10 years and the thing I enjoy the most is connecting with people but mostly it’s at the end of the workshop when I see people more confident to support someone thinking of suicide and to help that person to stay safe and connect to others – I love that. When I see people pumped up in confidence, knowing they can reach out – that’s what the network of safety is, many people around someone in many ways helping them.”
